This butte, located at the southern end of Death Valley, bears the marks of a great lake. Many strandlines have been cut into the rock. They mark the highest stand of Lake Manly, when it was about 400-600′ deep. Water at this time may have come over the adjacent Wingate Pass from Panamint and Searles Lake.
