This section of Foothill Blvd. was built as a bypass for San Fernando Road from Roxford St. to Sierra Highway in 1934. The alignment has not changed much here since then. However, this section of Foothill Blvd. has had a rather odd history. In 1934, it was extended to Sierra Highway. In 1954, it was shortened by about 1/2 mile and did not connect to Sierra Highway. That was done because a ramp for the Golden State Freeway blocked the end of the road. Finally, in 1972, it was re-extended to Sierra Highway and remains that way today.
