State 241 is one of the three toll freeways in the Orange County area. It was opened in segments from 1995 to 1998. Future plans call for an extension to I-5 south of San Clemente but these are very controversial. Los Patrones Parkway, from Oso Parkway to Cow Camp Road serves as a temporary extension of the freeway, not signed as State 241 though. This freeway, if complete, would only serve developments to the east of I-5. It would not effectively serve as an alternate to the 5 as it does not reconnect and heads a very different direction at the north end.
