Built mostly in the 1930’s, this roadway serves the western end of the San Gabriel Mountains. It runs from the junction of Little Tujunga Canyon Road at Bear Divide to Sierra Highway. The segment south of Soledad Canyon Road runs through Sand Canyon, then Bear Canyon south of Placerita Canyon Road. At Bear Divide, the roadway crosses Santa Clara Divide Road. While not all of it is open to motorized vehicles, it does provide a mostly ridge top roadway from Newhall at the State 14 / Newhall Ave (former San Fernando Road) interchange to Angeles Crest Highway via Magic Mountain, North Fork Saddle, Mt Gleason, and Mt Pacifico.
