Cholame – Jct SR-41 North

Eastbound signage approaching the junction.

Just east of Cholame, US 466 met State 41. The junction has changed only a little since it was first created, with some channelization added in more recent times. It was first modified in 1954 when the roadway was realigned a little to the north. This intersection is also famous for the death of James Dean, who died at this intersection on September 30, 1955 in a car collision. Future plans call for a potential grade separated interchange for State 41. Two other roads also intersect here, one heading north to Parkfield, and another south toward the Carizzo Plain. The San Andreas Fault also crosses the highway here, just west of the Cholame Creek bridge.

James Dean Memorial just west of the intersection.
