US 466
Tehachapi

Central Tehachapi

Tehachapi was founded in 1876 when the Southern Pacific Railroad was built through here. The town serves as a commercial center for the ranches in the area and, to a small degree, as a commuter suburb for the Bakersfield area. Tehachapi was bypassed in 1970 by the current alignment of the State 58 Freeway.

US 466 followed Tehachapi Blvd, Curry St, Valley Blvd, and Woodford-Tehachapi Road through town until 1948, when it was moved from Woodford-Tehachapi Road onto the current alignment of 58 northwest of town.
