Lancaster was founded as a railroad town in the late 1800’s. Sierra Highway was and still is a major route through town. The Antelope Valley Freeway bypassed Lancaster in 1968 north of Ave I and 1972 south to Ave P-8. State Highway 138 used to join with US 6 here at Lancaster Blvd until sometime in the 1960’s.
