US 99 / US 466 – Oildale OH – Oil Junction

Here, the 1934 Bakersfield Bypass joins with the original alignment. The original 1933 bridge over the Southern Pacific Railroad was removed in 1964, replaced by the current southbound SR-99 bridge. However, in 1948, this section was upgraded to an expressway. The original 99 span was converted to northbound and a new southbound bridge (50-0034L) was built. That bridge still stands today as a part of Knudsen Dr, a frontage road for the SR-99 freeway. Original twin-slab concrete also remains from the expressway upgrade, running from near the 99 ramps to Beardsley Canal Bridge (50-0050L).

The Beardsley Canal Bridge (50-0050L) is another remnant of the US 99 expressway here, complete with original wooden railing from 1948.
