US 99 met one of its three spur routes here at Taft Highway. US 399 came into existence in the mid 1930’s. It connected to US 101 in Ventura, following present day SR-119 and SR-33. It was decommissioned in 1964. Here, US 399 merged here with US 99 and headed north into Bakersfield, ending at the junction with US 466.

US 99 was widened to a four lane divided highway here in 1939. In 1951, the junction was upgraded with a median barrier and signals. US 99 was widened to six lanes at the intersection as well.
