In 1967, San Fernando Blvd was closed off between Tujunga Ave and San Jose Ave for the Golden Mall. It was an open air pedestrian mall. In 1989, the roadway was reopened for a short time until the Media City Center mall was constructed in 1991. Former US 99 is now broken by the mall between Magnolia Ave and Cypress Ave.
