Historic US 101 in San Diego County

Highway 101, as it is still referred to in northern San Diego County, is a heavily used road.  Portions still retain the old feel, others have been completely changed and modernized. On a nice summer afternoon, 101 is a great drive from Oceanside to San Diego. Each town encountered has a different look and feel to it. Most embrace the historic aspect of the highway, and have put up signs to that end. Through San Diego and south to the Border, US 101 is a more inland route, going on the east side of San Diego Bay, heading through city the whole way.
