By far the most recognized span in the San Diego area, this bridge crosses San Diego Bay linking the cities of San Diego and Coronado. The design of the bridge is fairly simple but effective. As there is a large naval base to the south of the bridge, it had to be built high enough for ships to pass. It also had to connect to I-5 and Coronado at specific points. Those combined together created the graceful curve on the western side of the bridge. Until 2002, this was a toll bridge.
