The 60 freeway is one of the busier freeways in the Los Angeles area. It is also one of the main truck routes to the east and it shows it. At the west end of the 60, it joins with many of the major freeways in Los Angeles at the East Los Angeles Interchange. The eastern portion of the route, from the 71 east to the 10 was formerly US 60, though not all the present freeway was signed as such. The far eastern end of the 60, which formerly had three at-grade intersections, is getting upgraded to a full freeway. Only one at-grade intersection remains so far, at Jackrabbit Trail. The western end of the Pomona Freeway was also originally planned to be signed as State Route 26 from the 5 to possibly around the 710.
HOV lanes run from just east of I-605 in South El Monte to Redlands Blvd in Moreno Valley.
