Virtual Tour of the Ridge Route
Ridge Route – Tumble Inn
Tumble Inn was built in the 1920’s as a gas station and hostel. Many people made this place a stopping point along this highway. As one can see, this place was built by hand with native stones. The buildings were below the wall with camping available above. On the steps, as shown below, the name of this place has been carved. The archway was restored through efforts by the Ridge Route Preservation Organization in the early 2000’s.
This location also marks the northern end of the closed section. From here to State 138, the roadway remains open with occasional restrictions due to fire or inclement weather.
