Fairmount Avenue is one of the major streets in the City Heights / East San Diego area and access routes to Mission Valley. Until the late 1940’s, it was also a part of US 395 from El Cajon Blvd to Camino Del Rio (I-8). In 1960, a portion of the roadway from Meade Avenue to I-8 was converted to a four-lane expressway. Interchanges were added at Aldine Drive and Montezuma Rd during this conversion.

It was much later that the last signal, just south of I-8, was eliminated and Fairmount got a stop free connection to the 8 and the 805. I now it was after 1980!
