US 6 – Rosamond Through the Mojave Desert – Kern County Rosamond El. 2330′ Here, US 6 reaches the town of Rosamond and is the first town on US 6 in Kern County. Rosamond Blvd., the cross street in the photo, is also one of the main roads into Edwards Air Force Base (formerly Muroc). The freeway bypassed this town in 1968. Remains of the Standard gasoline station at Rosamond Blvd and Sierra Highway. The sign formerly read “Standard Oil Service”, with the red sign meaning it was a dealer station.
