Three alignments of US 6/395 pass through the Camp Independence area. The first, following Fort Road, was in use until the early 1950’s. The second alignment follows Schabell Lane. Some culvert markers still exist along this alignment. North of where Fort Road intersects, the alignment has been closed off. It crosses the current, post-1960 alignment a few miles north. In 1960, the current alignment was built, this time as a four-lane expressway. This section was upgraded again and widened in the mid-2000’s to its current configuration.
