Basin and Range – Owens Valley
Keough Hot Springs
Here, US 6/395 has three different alignments. The earliest was oiled and upgraded in 1922. This is the longest and highest of the alignments. In 1936, a newer alignment further down the alluvial fan was built, improved again in 1951. That alignment still retains its white striping, but most of the culverts were either removed or washed out. In 1962, the present expressway alignment of US 6/395 was built even lower down the fan. North of Keough Hot Springs, the original alignment was bypassed in 1933, from Keough to Sunland Reservation Road. Traces of that alignment still exist today with the exception of the bridges crossing a canal near the northern end.
