Tonopah
El. 6030′
Tonopah is one of many towns along US 6 and US 95 founded by miners in the early 1900’s. This town marks the last town along US 6 until Ely, NV, 167 miles east. It is highly advisable to fill up on food and fuel in this town as Ely is the next fuel stop. The distance between Tonopah and Ely along US 6 is the longest gap between services in the lower 48.
Formerly, US 6 headed east on Florence Ave from Main St. In the late 1970’s, the US 6 and US 95 junction was moved a bit south to its current location on the south side of Gold Hill.
US 6 east of Tonopah passes through some very scenic country. A stopover at Lunar Crater is recommended.
