WELCOME to the expanded and updated San Diego Wineries page!
This website will help guide you to the over 90 unique boutique wineries and tasting rooms located in the greater San Diego area including: San Diego/La Mesa/Poway, Escondido/Valley Center/Fallbrook, Ramona, Julian / Warner Springs, Northwest/Coastal, and Southeastern San Diego County.
Some of the area’s wineries have tasting rooms that are open several days a week while others offer tastings only on weekends. Most tasting rooms offer tastings for a $10-$20 fee: some less, some more and some will even give you the souvenir glass. Some are by appointment only or sell their product commercially to area stores and not directly to the public. Please contact each winery individually to verify the latest information. Many of the wineries also feature ‘wine clubs’ that will ship selections to you (in most states) periodically and offer discounts on your purchases.
Wines made locally are often made from a combination of local grapes and grapes from other areas of California, Oregon & Washington that are contracted to or owned by wineries here in San Diego County.
San Diego County Wineries are NOT to be confused with those in Temecula which is in Riverside County, a separate area that is many miles away.
Two appellations are located here: Ramona Valley and San Diego County. The term Appellation means that the wines produced in a certain area are distinct to that particular area. Each wine that is labeled from a particular appellation means that the majority of the grapes used to produce that wine were grown in that specific area.
Included is a brief overview of many of the individual wineries and tasting rooms and the varietals they serve. As San Diego County adds new wineries and tasting rooms all the time, this list is expanded but may not list every winery as the list changes. They are grouped by area so that you are able to visit several vintners at a time and appreciate the differences that these wines bring to the fine Southern California wine tasting experience.
First some tips: Before embarking on your wine tour, it is always a good idea to eat a hearty meal first and drink in moderation. Allow plenty of time for visiting each winery. Enjoying the conversation and company of other fellow wine enthusiasts adds to the experience and should not be rushed. In most cases, the people that pour at these tasting rooms are the actual winemakers and will be happy to talk to you about their craft and the stories they share will make your visit a memorable one. Don’t hesitate to ask questions: local vintners are extremely approachable and love to talk about their wines…unlike other wine areas that are highly pretentious and snobbish. You will rarely find that type of attitude here!
The Wineries
Due to the limited production of individual wines, not all wines listed here may be available for sale or tasting at all times. Please contact the individual wineries for more detailed information and pricing. Most but not all wineries offer tasting rooms on-site or at central locations. Those vintners that don’t, usually sell their product at other wineries, tasting rooms or grocery stores and can also be contacted directly to make an appointment or purchase their wines and is so noted.
