SR-905: Otay Mesa Freeway

SR-905
Otay Mesa Freeway
Runs from just west of I-5 to the Mexican Border in Otay Mesa

While it is San Diego’s newest freeway, it has had a tougher past. For many years, State 905 was a discontinuous route with a gap in the middle. Caltrans eventually took over a well worn roadway, known as Otay Mesa Road. The roadway was badly beaten up due to the heavy truck traffic. The Otay Mesa Border Crossing is the main truck border crossing. Trucks aren’t allowed at the San Ysidro (I-5) crossing. This road may become an Interstate in the future, though Caltrans does not have plans for that as yet.
