The 805 is the busiest freeway in San Diego. During peak traffic, it gets backed up for miles. However, traffic is very directional, with one side backed up and the other free flowing. This freeway was constructed between 1970 and 1975. HOV lanes are slowly being added to the route. At this time, it has HOV lanes from I-5 to State 52 and again from State 94 to Palomar Street in Chula Vista. The path the freeway takes through San Diego closely follows the former line between the San Diego Mission Lands and the San Diego Pueblo Lands between I-5 and State 94.
