This roadway has seen many changes since it was originally built. From El Cajon to Santee, it used to run on Magnolia Ave, just west of the current freeway. At Santee, it turned onto Woodside Ave to Lakeside. North of Lakeside, State 67 used to run through San Vicente Reservoir to Mussey Grade Road. Construction of San Vicente Dam in 1947 forced the highway to be relocated to its current alignment from the San Diego River crossing to the junction of Mussey Grade Road and State 67 near Ramona.
