Kanan-Dume Road (multiple tunnels)
Built: 1975 to 1982
Location: Between Truinfo Canyon Road and State Hwy 1
Three sets of tunnels, originally built as single tunnels, were constructed along Kanan-Dume Road during a period of road building funded partly as an “atomic warfare escape route” should Los Angeles be bombed. This, of course, never happened but the region still did benefit from these roadways. Most of the tunnels along Kanan-Dume road are one-lane wide and were twinned in the early 1980’s.
Malibu Canyon Road
Built: 1952
Location: One mile south of Piuma Road
The only tunnel along Malibu Canyon Road, it was built to help alleviate the need for a sharp curve along the roadway.
